Which rugs are suitable for our nursery or children’s rooms?
For children’s rooms we recommend our cotton rugs, or even better: our organic cotton rugs as these are free from pesticides and any other chemicals.
Which rugs can lay in the sun without loosing their colours?
Our rugs made of recycled PET are made with UV treated fibres, which won’t fade in the sun.
Is it bad for the environment, if I wash my recycled PET rug?
During each laundry you do, that is with synthetic fibres, it is possible that micro plastic will get into the water cycle. Unfortunately it is not possible to preclude this in case of our PET rugs. But normally you don’t wash your rug as often as you wash your synthetic clothes, like your sports wear for example. This means, that it won’t harm much, if you wash your rug once in a while at 30°C in the short mode of your machine.
How do I get those bumps out of my round rug after washing it?
It is possible, that our roundies slightly change their form after washing them in the laundry machine. With a little help of a steamer, this bumpy situation will be cleared within a few minutes. Apply a tea towel on the parts that need to be steamed and softly use your iron in steaming mode to go over the bumps.
What’s the difference between regular cotton and organic cotton?
Most times regular cotton is genetically manipulated or treated with pesticides and other chemicals, so the cotton will grow faster and not be attacked by pests. Furthermore, to prevent the soil from being leached, artificial fertilisers are being used. Organic cotton, on the other hand, can do without chemical treatments. Moreover, crop rotation and natural fertilisers help protecting the soil. Pesticides are not being used at all for the growth of organic cotton.
What exactly is recycled cotton?
Our rugs made of recycled cotton are either made of recycled clothes (for instance the HERRINGBONE or MOON series) or of cotton excess from the textile industry (like the HILLS or DIAMONDS rugs and cushions).
What kind of wool is being used for the pashmina scarves?
Our scarves are made of Yak wool from the mountains of the Himalaya. The Yak goats live in the mountains and their soft wool is carefully combed out by the mountain people, without harming the animals.
What do I do, if none of the rug sizes fit for me?
We do customised sizes, so if you’re interested in a different size, simply drop us a mail with the size, model and material of your dream rug and we’ll send you an offer. Please note that customised rugs will take longer in production and that the costs will be higher, due to the fact that the weavers will have to stop with their regular work, to change their weaving looms to the right measures.
Does the colour of a product in the web shop/catalogue correspond to the colour of the real product?
It is possible that the colours in our moods vary from the real product, due to the light in the image. Moreover, the colour in the picture will vary from screen to screen, as each screen has a different setting. Of course, we do our best to match the colours in the catalog as good as possible.
Do liv products carry a quality seal?
All our rugs are carry the GoodWeave seal. GoodWeave is a non-profit organisation that secures fair working conditions of our weavers in India. Moreover, GoodWeave is making sure that no child labour is involved in the process and that the weaver’s families get supported, in order to send their children to school. Why are recycled cotton rugs so cheap?
Luckily we can offer recycled cotton rugs to an interesting price, as the raw material is cheap. The cotton clothes are being collected from Europe and USA and transported in the containers which usually go back empty from Europe to India. The clothes will be freed of buttons and zippers on site and can then be processed to a new cotton yarn.
Why are recycled PET rugs so expensive?
Recycled PET rugs have many complex processing steps, which is why they cost more than the rest of the rugs of our collection. The raw material for our rugs, are used plastic bottles and you need to imagine that up to 750 of those used PET bottles are being processed in a rug sized 140x200cm. The bottles need to be cleaned, freed of any other material, then cut into pieces before the material can be melted down. From the melted material we can then create a thin yarn, which needs to be dyed before it can be used in the weaving process. As you can see, there is quite a long way from a plastic bottle to its reincarnation as a liv rug. But in the end, you will receive a beautiful, durable and easy-care rug, which will keep you happy for a long time.
How do I clean my jute or hemp rug?
Jute and hemp like to be shaken softly to be freed from dust and dirt. They don’t like water.
What are azo-free dyes?
liv textiles are only being treated with azo-free dyes. One of the main parts of ago-dyes is crude oil and some colouring agents can release aromatic amines, which can be poisonous or cause cancer. When the colours get in contact with sweat, for instance, the amines can be released and absorbed by the human body. The use of this kind of harmful substances is therefore excluded in the fabrication of our products.
Which liv products are vegan?
All items except our silk cushions and a few wool or leather products are suitable for vegan homes.
